Vertical Village: A Home for the Future
Vertical Village preserves the independence and privacy of compact homes while encouraging interaction through shared gardens, terraces and communal spaces. It distinguishes an apartment as a unit within a building from a home as a place with identity, comfort and a sense of belonging.
From parallel volumes to vertical homes
The form begins with two parallel volumes divided into independent dwellings. Internal level changes expand the usable space, while the gaps between the volumes accommodate services, stairs and a lift.
Planted terraces, shared work and leisure spaces, and a communal rooftop are then introduced. Repeating this arrangement vertically and exposing the steel structure establish the building’s high-tech architectural expression.

Proposed environmental strategy
The proposal combines natural daylight and ventilation with efficient glazing, air-source heat pumps, renewable energy, rainwater harvesting and reuse of treated water.
Recyclable steel, modular construction, waste management, adaptability and consideration of the building’s life cycle are also proposed. Suggested planting includes succulents, yucca, palms, agave, ferns and lavender.
